Gonzaga Bulldogs vs Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils

My initial thoughts on watching the Zags play the Delta Devils

Matt Bouldin will be a team leader, but not in a loud, aggressive way. I think his leadership will be through his basketball IQ, demonstrated in plays that show his floor vision and ability to read defenses.

Elias Harris looks like he could become a great Zag. I’ll have a stronger opinion after the Michigan State game but I think if he stays healthy and continues to improve (and against strong competition, he’ll either sink or swim) I’m going to really enjoy watching him play.

Demetri Goodson is the point guard I’ve been wanting since Derek Raivio graduated. He still has a lot of room for improvement but I think the Zags are in good hands.

Robert Sacre will hopefully be healthy and be even more determined. I think he has the talent to be the dependable presence that Gonzaga needs down low.

Gonzaga’s ultimate success will rest in the play of Bouldin and Steven Gray. If they play solid, don’t turn the ball over, and are floor leaders, Gonzaga will be in every game. But what if they have an off night or get into foul trouble? It’ll be interesting, maybe even painful, to see how the rest of the team rallies if the one, or both, of its best players aren’t a major factor in any given game.
